City pupils take part in Youth Games

Around 1600 school children were today set to take part in the Edinburgh Airport Youth Games.

The participants, from 42 schools across the Capital, were competing in the 12th year of the event at seven venues across the city.

Among the sports to feature were athletics, football, golf, gymnastics, dance, climbing and swimming, while a "festival of fun" was to include a climbing tower, sumo suits, fitness demos and beat the goalie.

Edinburgh Leisure chief executive John Comiskey said: "The main aim of the Youth Games is to encourage sporting participation amongst young people, of which some may have less of an opportunity to take part in physical activity than others."

Edinburgh Airport managing director Kevin Brown said: "We are delighted to support the Games."
