Cigarette pack plan is plain

CIGARETTES should be come in plain packaging to discourage people from taking up the habit, a city charity has said.

Edinburgh-based ASH Scotland said it would not only make them less appealing, but also make the mandatory health warnings stand out more.

Chief executive Sheila Duffy said

: "There is a gathering body of evidence that if tobacco packets could only use plain packaging free of colour, decoration, and design, it would make health warning messages more prominent, reduce youth smoking and increase prevention."
