Chinese restaurant closed for second health breach

ENVIRONMENTAL health officers have closed a Chinese restaurant in West Lothian for the second time in six months.

Officers from West Lothian Council’s Environmental Health Service had to take immediate action last week to close the Mei Hua Platform Restaurant in West Calder after serious risks to food safety and public health were identified during a routine inspection.

Officers found it in a dirty condition, with concerns also raised regarding temperature control of high-risk foods. Officers discovered a person preparing food was smoking in the kitchen, for which a fixed penalty notice was issued.

An environmental health spokesman said: “It is unacceptable that this business has been allowed to deteriorate to such a level that it is being closed again. It is even more disappointing that no lessons have been learned.

“The consequences of food poisoning are at best unpleasant and at worst fatal.”
