Charity wins accolade for use of cash

A SCOTTISH charity has been handed an award for having the best health project in the UK.

Sense Scotland is said to have beaten hundreds of projects across the country to scoop the National Lottery award.

The event, hosted by singer Myleene Klass, was held in London on Saturday night and was broadcast live on BBC 1.

The charity, based in Glasgow, works with deafblind and disabled adults and young people across Scotland.

It was given the award in recognition of its use of lottery funding, which it invested in a range of support services including day care, short breaks, community living and advisory services, as well as providing arts and outdoor activities.

Mairi Morrison, Sense Scotland’s head of business development, said: “It is an absolute honour to win this award and a real boost for everyone involved to receive national recognition for their hard work and dedication.Lottery funding has been absolutely crucial to Sense Scotland.”

“The awards have given us a great opportunity to highlight the projects we are able to run thanks to lottery funding.

Dr Pamela Stephenson, a psychologist and wife of Scots actor and comedian Billy Connolly, presented the trophy.
