Charity slams Arctic drilling

GREEN campaigners have expressed their disappointment after Edinburgh-based oil firm Cairn Energy began drilling in the Arctic.

The oil firm, which has its headquarters in Lothian Road, yesterday announced it had begun drilling two exploration wells off the coast of Greenland.

WWF Scotland's director, Dr Richard Dixon, said: "It's bitterly disappointing that oil exploration has begun in this sensitive Arctic environment.

"Scotland has the best climate targets in the world so it is ironic a Scottish company is leading this risky hunt for oil."
