They met yesterday at a fundraising afternoon tea event for the Simpson’s Memory Box Appeal at Le Monde in George Street, as Dr Gillian Smith MBE, director of the Royal College of Midwives Scottish, was appointed as the city charity’s new patron.

Alexander was also appointed as an ambassador of the charity.

SiMBA creates memory boxes for bereaved parents, which aim to help them come to terms with their loss.

Dr Smith later said she was “overwhelmed” by the appointment.
