Charity quids in thanks to advertising deal

THE old property maxim "location, location, location" has never been so apt for one enterprising charity shop.

Perched on the Capital's busy South Bridge, a branch of Save the Children is to exploit its prime position and boost its income by offering advertising space in its window.

A deal has been struck with Edinburgh business Community View to mount a 40in HD TV screen in a move expected to swell charity coffers by 25,000 a year.

The agreement is the first of its kind in the UK and, if successful, it is hoped the screens will be rolled out to more of the charity's 125 shops around the UK.

Up to 500 advertising slots will be available on the screen, and Community View will be donating 50 per year for each company which takes out an advert.

It is understood deals have already been struck with major retailers in the Capital to take advertising time on the screen.

Danny McGill, shop manager, said: "The new screen is a great way to promote both local businesses as well as Save the Children and should generate extra funds for our work too. It's really exciting that our organisation is on the cutting edge of 21st century advertising and that we're the first charity shop to ever have done this."
