Charity gets cash boost to aid homeless

CITY-BASED homelessness charity Fresh Start will use a new £16,233 grant to keep up with demand for its services helping people make a success of their new homes.

Fresh Start helps around 2000 homeless households across Edinburgh resettle into new homes each year.

The latest funding from the Bank of Scotland Foundation will help pay for Starter Packs, handed out to around 5000 people each year, and a decorating service which helped 135 people last year.

Keith Robertson, Fresh Start’s managing director, said: “Each year we see more people than we can help come to our doors to access basic goods.

“We work with some of Edinburgh’s most vulnerable individuals and families who have been homeless by giving them a fresh start in their new homes. This includes providing essential items such as cutlery and crockery in our Starter Packs and support with decoration.”
