Charity concert for orphan

Georgian choir Shavnabada will perform at St Cuthbert's Church in Lothian Road on November 23 to raise money for an orphan from their home country.

Datuna Valishvili was left paralysed after falling from a window and spent his early life begging in Tblisi, often in sub-zero temperatures.

He now lives in an orphanage, but needs surgery to prevent his condition deteriorating.

Proceeds from the concert will go towards a fund to help bring Datuna to Edinburgh for surgery. Although it will not restore his ability to walk, the operation will help correct the curvature of his spine caused by the fall.

The cause has also been backed by children from Thornlie Primary School in Wishaw, who have raised funds for Datuna and visited him in Georgia. They will perform at the concert alongside the choir.

Lord Provost George Grubb will also host a civic reception at the City Chambers for the choir and schoolchildren.

The event begins at 7pm, tickets are 10 on the door or from [email protected].
