Charity calls on more help for homeless pets

ANIMAL welfare charity OneKind is calling on people to be more aware of the challenges facing the pets of homeless people, as the Capital prepares for another harsh winter.

The city charity is providing gifts for homeless pets this Christmas and is supporting free clinics which offer treatment to street pets.

In Edinburgh, there are around 35 accommodation services for homeless people but only three are thought to accommodate pets.

Dr Andrew Gardiner, a vet with the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies, together with colleague Amy Jennings, runs regular clinics at two homeless hostels in the city.

He will give a talk on the work of the clinics at a OneKind event at the Augustine Church, George IV Bridge, next Wednesday. Doors open at 6pm.
