Charity bike event hailed

AN Edinburgh charity cycling event is to feature in a new list of the world’s top races.

The World’s Ultimate Cycle Races, by journalist Ellis Bacon and published by HarperCollins, will feature The Bethany Edinburgh Sportive – an annual cycle taking place in June, with participants racing from Lasswade High School to Crosslee in the Borders.

Registration proceeds from the event, run by the Bethany Christian Trust, help Scotland’s homeless and vulnerable.

Mr Bacon said: “With sportive enthusiasts well catered for in the south of the UK, event organisers are getting increasingly wiser to attracting riders to the arguably more spectacular and challenging terrain further north.

“Riders are always on the lookout for that next challenge, and are willing to travel.”
