Chance to nominate someone for outstanding contribution to city

IT’S a veritable roll call of the city’s greatest modern exponents, but nominations are again being sought to find the next winner of the prestigious Edinburgh Award.

Winners of the accolade have a cast of their handprints set in Caithness stone and placed at the front of the City Chambers.

Nominations are sought annually from communities, businesses and individuals. The bar has been set high, with previous winners including Ian Rankin, JK Rowling and Sir Chris Hoy.

Lord Provost George Grubb said: “The Edinburgh Award enables the people of Edinburgh to pay a lasting tribute to someone who has made an outstanding contribution to the city.”

Nominations must be received no later than Friday, December 2. The winner of the 2011 Ediburgh Award will be selected by a judging panel chaired by the Lord Provost, with representatives from all political groups on the City of Edinburgh Council, Edinburgh Voluntary Organisations Council and Edinburgh Chamber of Commerce.
