Celtic Media Festival producer to take top job at Bafta Scotland

A NEW figurehead for the Scottish film and television industry has been announced.

Jude MacLaverty will take over the running of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) Scotland following the departure of current director Helen Anderson in November.

Ms MacLaverty is presently the producer of the Celtic Media Festival, an annual showcase of broadcasting and film talent from Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany.

Her main task will be to oversee the Bafta Scotland Awards, the flagship celebration of the nation's achievements.

Ms MacLaverty, who will be in charge of initiatives to promote and encourage new talent, has previously worked at the Cameo Cinema and Traverse Theatre, in Edinburgh, as well as serving as Bafta Scotland's events manager.

She said: "I'm thrilled about joining Bafta Scotland, and I look forward to helping the continued development of such a great organisation. These are very exciting and changing times for the Scottish film, TV and digital industries and I'm glad to be a part of that".

She is not expected to take up post until January due to maternity leave. Catherine Murtagh, projects director for Bafta Scotland, will oversee the director's role until the end of the year.

Ewan Angus, chair of the Bafta Scotland board, said: "I'm delighted with the appointment of Jude.

"I am confident that her knowledge, passion and reputation will help Bafta Scotland forge new links with the wider industry across Scotland, and open up a wealth of new opportunities."
