Castle fights to retain top tourism title

Edinburgh Castle, named top UK Heritage Attraction in last year’s British Travel Awards, has been shortlisted again for the 2012 title.

Members of the public are being urged to vote online to ensure the Castle retains its top slot.

The Castle is currently leading in the polls with 33.23 per cent, but hot on its heels is the Minack Open-air theatre in Cornwall with 29.32 per cent and St Paul’s Cathedral with 23.23 per cent.

Nick Finnigan, the Castle’s executive manager said: “I am hoping that people will vote for Edinburgh Castle by visiting the Historic Scotland website on www.edinburghcastle.gov.uk and pressing the ‘vote for us’ button.

“With record visitor numbers in June, the arrival of the Olympic torch and the lighting of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Beacon against the dramatic backdrop of the Castle, it has been a momentous year so far.”
