Cash boost for booze battle

MORE than £5 million has been handed to NHS Lothian to extend a scheme whereby GPs grill patients on alcohol intake.

It is hoped the Scottish Government cash will help cut the dependence on drink of thousands of Lothians residents.

Doctors in the area have already had some success with the brief interventions, indicating that a significant number of those asked were able to cut down their intake.
