Case study: ‘Surely the least we can expect is an investigation?’

THE father of a Scottish man who died while on holiday in Spain broke down in the European Parliament while speaking about his search for justice.

Christopher Lindsay, 34, a father of three from Edinburgh, had been on a work trip near Malaga in Spain, in October, last year, as a reward for being one of the best salesman with the Marketing Company, signing people up as charitable donors.

He was discovered by police in the early hours of the morning, battered and barely conscious, and with his wallet and passport stolen. His father Harry, 63, and brother Tony, 38, rushed out to see him in hospital, but he died a few days later.

More than five months later, Spanish police have yet to launch a murder investigation.

Harry Lindsay travelled to the European Parliament in Brussels, for a Victim Support Europe conference, to urge Europol to instruct Spanish authorities to finally open a murder inquiry.

“There are so many questions that police have not been able to answer,” he said.

“When the police found him lying in the street, he had injuries and his wallet and passport were missing.

“Why is there no formal investigation into the circumstances surrounding Christopher’s death?

“I fear the truth is that he was attacked and robbed and left for dead. If that is the case, we are potentially talking about murder.

“Surely the least his family can expect is that there is an investigation?

“For all our family, including the grandchildren, we must know the truth. And I am prepared to go anywhere I can to seek justice.”
