Carjackers hunted after terrifying ordeal of BMW driver

A DRIVER was held at knifepoint and forced to drive around a city in what police described as a "terrifying" ordeal.

Three men swooped on the 37-year-old driver in Glasgow and stole his wallet, then made him drive to a cash machine to withdraw more money.

The incident happened at around noon on Thursday as he stopped at traffic lights on the city's Peat Road at its junction with Priesthill Road in Pollok.

The men got into the car and threatened the driver with a knife. He was forced to drive around and stop outside a playpark in Hartstone Road. The men then robbed him of a three-figure sum of cash and his mobile phone.

The gang told him to pull into a BP service station in Nitshill Road to withdraw cash but the driver ran into the garage for help. The men then fled.

Strathclyde Police said a forensic team had been examining the BMW for evidence and officers have been checking CCTV footage.

The robbers are white and aged 20 to 25. One was wearing a green hooded top.

Detective Constable John Morrison said: "This was a terrifying experience for the victim. A thorough investigation has been ongoing since Thursday afternoon and will continue till we trace those responsible.

"I would appeal to anyone who recognises the three suspects' descriptions to come forward. They quite clearly have no qualms about subjecting an innocent member of the public to such a frightening ordeal, and must be caught."
