Care watchdog visits school to check for improvements

SCOTLAND’S care watchdog will revisit a residential school that houses vulnerable children to ensure it has implemented a series of improvements.

As the Evening News reported last week, the Care Inspectorate issued an eight-point improvement notice to Moore House Care and Education in Bathgate, with a deadline of November 1 to put the improvements in place.

The watchdog has previously tried to get the school shut down, and will once again seek legal action if the improvements have not been made.

A spokesman for the Care Inspectorate said: “Following the completion of an inspection and complaint investigation at Moore House School in September, the Care Inspectorate sought emergency actions through Livingston Sheriff Court because of serious concerns for the safety and well-being of children.

“We have also issued the service with a formal enforcement notice.”
