Capital pupils spell success

PUPILS at The Mary Erskine and Stewart’s Melville Junior School beat off competition from more than 1500 schools to take runner-up spot in the British final of the Spelling Bee competition in London.

Headmaster Bryan Lewis said: “We are very proud of our children, who are all primary seven and younger than all the other teams.

“They are the first Scottish children to reach the national final, and to come second from an initial entry of 1500 schools is testament to their innate spelling ability, their commitment and their ability to remain composed under pressure.”
