Capital gets ready for Polish Day

A POLISH Day is to be held in St Andrew Square on Saturday to mark the country taking on the presidency of the Council of the European Union.

The event, which runs from 11am to 7pm, will include traditional and contemporary music, dance, art workshops, exhibitions, children's activities and food tasting.

There will be an official welcome by the Consul General of Poland in Edinburgh and the Head of the Scottish Office of the European Commission at 11.30am, and at 12pm the Mazury Dance Company of the Polish YMCA will give a presentation of regional dances.

Among the afternoon's entertainment will be a presentation of carvings in salt by a sculptor from the Wieliczka Salt Mine, and a performance by the children's puppet theatre of The story of Wawel the Dragon.

There will be several stands, including one offering the chance to meet Polish business adviser, Majka Kozlowska; along with the Polish National Tourist Office; the Polish Edinburgh Group Edinburgh.com.pl; bobbin laces from Bobowa, and food tasting from Deli Polonia. Events will also be held at St Andrew's and St George's West in George Street.
