Capital events in running for top Scottish accolades

EDINBURGH’S Hogmanay and the Touch Rugby World Cup are among the successful events up for nomination at the Scottish Event Awards 2012.

The city council has been nominated in five categories including Best International Event for the running of the Hogmanay event.

Last year’s Golden Oldies World Hockey Festival also earned the local authority a nomination in the Best Sports award, while its public relations campaign drumming up support for the Hogmanay Street Party earned it another.

Winners are set to be announced at an awards ceremony in Glasgow in September.

Steve Cardownie, the city’s festivals and events champion, said: “Edinburgh hosts major international festivals, events and, of course, our world-famous Hogmanay celebrations.

“To be in the running for five major industry awards is a remarkable achievement and all credit must go to everyone involved in making these events so resoundingly successful. I wish the team every success when the final results are announced later this year.”
