FORMER Labour MP Dennis Canavan has said MP Eric Joyce should resign before the next general election after being arrested during a fracas at Edinburgh Airport.

FORMER Labour MP Dennis Canavan has said MP Eric Joyce should resign before the next general election after being arrested during a fracas at Edinburgh Airport.

Mr Canavan said: “Eric Joyce must do the honourable thing and resign immediately. His constituents must be allowed the opportunity to elect a new MP”. He was speaking after the Falkirk MP was arrested for the third time in 15 months.

But today Mr Joyce blamed airport staff and police for over-reacting over the incident that saw him handcuffed and pinned to the floor.

In a statement on his website, the MP denied having been charged or spoken to by the police – but went on to admit an incident had taken place in the arrivals hall.

Police Scotland confirmed that a 52-year-old man had been arrested and reported to the fiscal in connection with an alleged breach of the peace during the Sunday night incident.
