Call for talks with firm to stop job losses

MIDLOTHIAN Council is seeking urgent talks with a food processing company reported to be closing its Loanhead location.

Councillor Russell Imrie, cabinet portfolio-holder for strategic services, has called for the company Noble Foods to meet him and senior officials to discuss ways the council can help the local business.

Noble Foods is thought to employ around 90 people at its Loanhead egg-processing operation.

Cllr Imrie said: "We are extremely concerned at the potential loss of so many jobs in our area. The company has not contacted us to discuss its plans in any way so we're looking for a swift response and clarification as to its intentions.

"We want to see them immediately to discuss what we can do to help keep these jobs in Midlothian."
