Call to share museum cash

NATIONAL museums and galleries should have some of their funding redistributed around Scotland, a new report has recommended.

Museums Galleries Scotland, which represents 350 members across the country, says the Scottish Government should reallocate money away from Edinburgh-based national collections such as the National Museum of Scotland and National Gallery of Scotland.

It says funding should be more fairly distributed around the country.

The recommendation is being considered by culture minister Fiona Hyslop, with recommendations due in the summer as part of a government review of the museums and galleries sector.
