Call for release of Glasgow Lego set

Peter Johnston is a member of Lego Ideas website, where people seek attract support to persuade the international firm to make models of their project.

He has launched a campaign to win fans of his Glasgow initiative.

His set brings together highlights of the city including a typical tenement flat, the University of Glasgow, Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, the Gallery of Modern Art complete with the Duke of Wellington Statue and iconic traffic cone, and the Finnieston Crane.

In his appeal for support on the official Lego website, he states: “The model would be a great addition to any home with a love for Glasgow or Scotland.

“I’d love to see this as an addition to the Architecture series so thank you so much for all your support.”

For people wanting to see their project created they have to gather support from 10,000 followers.

The Lego website state: “Tell everyone you know (and even those you don’t know) to support your project.

“10,000 is a big number, but it’s doable if you have a great project and some old-fashioned persistence. The best results come from knowing how to ask for support from the right fan sites, blogs, and online communities.

“After reaching 10k, your project enters a special phase called the Lego Review.

“A review board of set designers and marketing representatives evaluates projects according to our review criteria and hand-picks projects to become new Lego Ideas sets. We can’t make everything, but every project in review gets a fair shot.”

Projects selected in the Lego Review go into production.

Once complete, it goes to the factory, then it’s shipped around the world and released for sale.
