Call to arms for Leithers

THE symbol of Leith – its coat of arms – has been returned almost 100 years after it last flew proudly over the old burgh.

The Court of the Lord Lyon, represented by Councillor Angela Blacklock, became custodian of the flag after Leith lost its independence in 1920. Cllr Blacklock and councillor Rob Munn, along with members of the Leith Sea Cadets, prepared it to be hoisted above Leith Library. The ship went from sable to brown when Leith Neighbourhood Partnership adopted the arms.
