While the phone lines were down police put in extra patrols in the area and members of the public requiring assistance were advised to visit a 999 response unit set up at the Lochailort junction on the A830.

The fibre optic cable was damaged by a wildfire on Wednesday night. The cable runs alongside the railway line and engineers had been working during the night, but had to stop as part of the hill was still burning.
