From business to back-benches

Sajid Javid

In becoming Conservative MP for Bromsgrove, Mr Javid left a long and lucrative career in banking behind. At the age of 25, he was one of the youngest vice presidents to work for Chase Manhattan bank, before moving to Deutsche Bank, where he became a managing director, and subsequently the head of its credit trading, equity convertibles, commodities and private equity businesses in Asia.

Richard Graham

Prior to becoming Conservative MP for Gloucester, merchant banker Mr Graham had a string of high-ranking jobs, which included working as an airline manager, and head of international business at Baring Asset Management. He was founding chairman of the British Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai, and vice-chairman of the Board of Airline Representatives in the Philippines.

THE Conservative MP for Macclesfield has spent most of his career in business. He was a senior executive in major companies, including retailer Asda – where he ran the Home Shopping and E-commerce businesses – PepsiCo International and, latterly, Halifax General Insurance and Barclays. He also worked as a special adviser in the last Conservative government, with posts at the Treasury, the Cabinet Office and the Ministry of Agriculture.
