Brush with nature can win art prize

Budding artists are being called upon to help brighten up Gorgie City Farm as part of a creative competition.

The attraction, which has been running for 30 years, is holding an art competition for people to draw or paint some aspect of farm life.

All submissions will be displayed around the farm for visitors to view. It is open to any aspiring artists aged under 18.

The competition is split into three age categories and each winner will receive art materials supplied by Henderson Artshop in Stockbridge.

Participants must deliver their entries in to the farm office or the cafe by October 28.

Winners will be announced on November 5 and all entries will be displayed at the farm from the November 5 to 17.

All entries will be returned to their original creator within a fortnight of the competition closing.

A spokesperson suggested those seeking inspiration could visit the farm to meet the animals and have a go at drawing them on site.

There is no entrance cost and possible models include familiar farm faces like cows, sheep, ponies, pigs, goats, chickens, turkeys and ducks.

The farm also has an aviary which contains owls and a pet lodge where rabbits, snakes, tortoise, rats, hamsters and guinea pigs can be found.
