Dr Hermione Cockburn – who helped to bring science to the screen with the BBC’s Tomorrow’s World, Rough Science and Coast – has been appointed scientific director at Our Dynamic Earth.

Dr Cockburn helped to establish the attraction’s education service when it opened in 1999, shortly after graduating with a PhD in geomorphology from Edinburgh University. She said: “My career has come full circle and I am returning to Dynamic Earth with much excitement about what the centre is doing and joining the team at a very positive time.

“I have been blown away by the extent of the appetite there is for visitors to benefit from the interactive and very real learning experience that Dynamic Earth offers.”
