The development is planned for the Haugh area of the city, which has brewing links dating back to the 1700s.

The plans have been submitted by Jon and Victoria Erasmus who own the Glen Mhor Hotel and Apartments in Inverness and are involved in a number of hotel and leisure businesses across Scotland.

They have been working since 2012 on a proposal to develop a riverside site situated on Ness Bank.

Historically brewing had taken place in the Haugh area of the city and they feel the time is right to restore the brewing tradition to this area again.

Colin Armstrong Chartered Architects were commissioned to design a building to house the brewery and visitor attraction.

The building will be fitted with both solar and biomass energy and the most energy efficient brewery available.

The couple said a German brewing plant and Scottish ingredients would be used to produce new Highland beers. The visitor attraction would include a shop and an art gallery.

The Erasmus family said the project could create at least 12 jobs.
