Brechin pensioner attacked by 4 bull terriers

The pensioner was walking his cocker spaniel in a park in Viewbank, Brechin, on Thursday afternoon when he was attacked by four brindle Staffordshire bull terriers.

Both the dog walker and his black and tan cocker spaniel were injured in the attack. A spokeswoman for the Tayside Division of Police Scotland said the pensioner had required treatment for a hand injury.

The woman who was with the bull terriers left the scene in a car.

Police Scotland officers in Brechin, who believe the attack may be linked to a similar incident in Montrose on 3 February, have appealed for witnesses to the dog attack.

A force spokeswoman said the attack had happened close to garages at Viewbank in Brechin around 2pm yesterday.

She said: “A 68-year old male, who was walking his black and tan coloured cocker spaniel dog in the Public Park, was attacked by four brindle coloured Staffordshire Bull Terriers.

“These dogs were in the company of a female described as in her early 50s of thin build with gray or brown untidy hair.

“The male and his dog sustained injuries as a result of this attack and the female subsequently left the scene in a car.”

The spokeswoman continued: “A similar incident occurred in Montrose on 3 February and it is possible that these incidents are linked. Anyone who has information regarding this should contact Police Scotland on 101 or any officer.”
