Break-ins fall over the year

THE number of housebreakings recorded by police in Edinburgh fell nearly a third during April compared with last year.

A total of 85 housebreakings were carried out in the Capital during April while 120 were committed in April 2009, a fall of 29 per cent.

Across the force area, housebreakings also dropped in the same period, falling from 149 to 117, a decrease of 21 per cent.

Officers believe 80 per cent of housebreakers commit the crimes to pay for addictions.
