Boyfriend arrested over disappearance of Scotswoman in Spain

Simon Corner, wanted for questioning over the disappearance of Lisa Brown last November, was held on a European Arrest Warrant in the Danish capital Copenhagen. Last night the 33-year-old was facing “imminent” extradition to Spain.

News of his arrest came as it emerged the Spanish authorities, who conducted searches of woodland and a river near the ex-pat’s home after she disappeared, believe she was killed and her body may have been dumped at sea.

The 32-year-old, mother to a nine-year-old boy by a previous partner, went missing from her home in Guadiaro near the upmarket port of Sotogrande on 4 November 2015.

It was thought the arrest warrant against Corner, issued by a court in San Roque near Guadiaro on 23 March, was for his alleged mistreatment of Ms Brown.

But a source close to the case confirmed yesterday: “The arrest warrant is for homicide because there is sufficient evidence pointing to Ms Brown having been killed. Simon Corner has been arrested in Copenhagen and will be extradited to Spain by the end of the week.”

Spanish officials have made no official comment about the arrest, which happened on 14 April. News of the detention can be revealed now following Corner’s appearance in front of an extradition judge and his near-month in a jail in the Danish capital.

He will go appear before an investigating judge in San Roque once he is returned to Spain.

Corner, originally from Liverpool, was made a wanted man after snubbing Spanish police attempts to question him about Ms Brown’s disappearance.

News of his arrest was welcomed by Ms Brown’s family including her sister Helen, from Alexandria, Dumbartonshire.

She said: “We still want desperately to find out what happened to Lisa. That’s been the main purpose of our campaign from the start.”
