BOXING promoter Barry Hughes was today detained by police acting under a proceeds of crime warrant.

Officers detained the 31-year-old (pictured) at his home in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire.

The proceeds of crime laws allow police to seize assets and cash which they suspect were funded through illegal activity.

A Strathclyde Police spokesman said: "This morning, July 14, Strathclyde Police working under a proceeds of crime warrant entered premises in Kilmacolm, Renfrewshire.

"A 31-year-old man was detained in police custody at 1.30pm."

BBC Scotland reported that it understood charges are expected to be brought against him in connection with money laundering and mortgage fraud.
