Borders rail link pledge

FIRST Minister Alex Salmond has insisted the Borders rail link will go ahead despite signs that only one consortium will be left bidding to build the line.

The IMCD consortium may pull out of the race after construction giant Carillion said it would no longer take part.

But Mr Salmond said: "The Borders railway will go ahead."

He added that there had been only one bidder for the M74 extension, which had been completed ahead of time and under budget.
