Boozed-up teen driver reveals guilt

A DRINK-driving teenager was caught after telling a petrol station manager: “I’ve just drove drunk.”

Jason Scott, of Barnton Grove, was nearly twice the blood-alcohol limit when he volunteered to shuttle his friends between a restaurant and a hotel 200 yards apart.

After revealing his inebriated state, Scott, 19, got back into his VW Polo and drove off to start ferrying more passengers.

However, the police had been contacted, and Scott was caught a few minutes later – when he drove back into the same garage while officers were there.

Scott admitted driving while he was almost twice the legal limit at Moto Services in Kinross on July 12 this year. He was banned from driving for a year and fined £330.

His solicitor, Cliff Culley, told Perth Sheriff Court yesterday: “It was not his intention to drive. He took the car to the restaurant with the intention of walking 200 yards back. Unfortunately, he was persuaded to do a shuttle service for his friends.

“It is one of those moments he will regret for a significant period. It has caused him and his family angst and concern and he appreciates the seriousness of it.”
