Booze blues for 155 over off-licence

Plans for a new retail unit in Angle Park Terrace have attracted 155 objections, amidst concerns that it will become an off-licence.

A planning application has been submitted by Richard Meadows for the change of use of an office at 21 Angle Park Terrace into a retail unit.

A complaint said that the proposals would have a negative impact on the local area due to increased parking, and said that an off-licence and wine warehouse were not needed because of the “large number of existing and new licensed premises locally”.

It said: “Given the current Scottish Parliamentary concern regarding Scotland’s drinking culture and abuse of alcohol it is very concerning that a local council may grant an additional licence within an already well-catered for community.”

Despite the objections, planning officials have recommended that the proposal is approved.
