Boost for Harris Tweed weavers

THE future of Harris Tweed weaving has received a boost with the news that from next year only accredited self-employed Harris Tweed weavers will be issued with yarn to made tweeds.

Weavers are being urged to take advantage of the opportunity to have their skills officially recognised to secure the long-term future of the island's weaving.

Morris Black, chairman of the Weavers Association, said: "We have been involved in the design of the assessment process to ensure that the qualification awarded will reflect the high level of skill and experience that already exists in the industry."
