Bollywood actress scoops degree from city university

Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore has been honoured by a Capital university for her contribution to Indian cinema.

Sixty-six-year-old Mrs Tagore who has appeared in more than 80 films spanning six decades, was made an Honorary Doctor of Arts by Edinburgh Napier University during a ceremony at the Usher Hall in the city.

The star, who is the great grand-niece of the late Indian poet Rabindranath Tagore, joined about 1000 graduating students at the event. At the ceremony, former consul general of India in Edinburgh, Anil Kumar Anand, was made an honorary doctor of the university and Geoff Day, director of communications for Mercedes-Benz USA, was given a doctorate of business administration.

Mr Day, who was brought up in North Berwick, East Lothian, graduated from Napier University in 1985 with a BA (Hons) in Business 
Studies.
