Bogus pair make off with Christmas cash

AN elderly couple were targeted by bogus callers who stole their Christmas savings after pretending to check their house’s water supply.

The 78-year-old man and his 75-year-old wife were at home in the Balbardie area of Bathgate between 11am and noon on Friday when a man called and asked to check the water flow.

On being shown into the kitchen, he distracted the couple whilst a second man entered the house and stole money from an upstairs bedroom.

The men quickly made off on foot towards Turner Street.

Both suspects are described as white, 30-40 years old, with slim to medium builds and polite English accents.

A police spokesman said: “This particular distraction method is prevalent at the moment and we are keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing men fitting this description.”
