A blooming good chance of winning

NORTH Berwick is the only Scottish nomination for this years Britain in Bloom awards.

The East Lothian town was last involved in the competition in 2010.

On that occasion it won gold and finished first in its category. North Berwick In Bloom are now hoping they will be able to repeat that achievement at this year’s awards.

It is one of six towns nominated in the “coastal town with a population of up to 12,000” category.

Rivals in the group are Channel Island towns Herm and Grouville, Lytham in Lancashire, Tenby, which sits on the Pembrokeshire coast in Wales, and Filey in Yorkshire.

Judges are set to visit each of the finalists later in the year, with the winners to be announced in October.

North Berwick will be hopeful of repeating its success – last year the town came first in its category in the Beautiful Scotland awards, earning the maximum marks in the international Communities in Bloom competition.
