Black Watch soldier held over Scots hero's death

A BLACK Watch soldier has been arrested in connection with the death of another soldier in Germany.

Private Mark Connolly, 24, originally from Methil, in Fife, died after an incident outside a pub in Paderborn on 14 May.

He had served in Afghanistan with the Black Watch, 3rd Battalion of the Royal Regiment of Scotland (3 Scots), where he had survived a bomb blast two years ago. Pte Connolly, who had also served in Iraq and Northern Ireland, was in Germany on an army driving course.

In 2009 he was left with serious arm injuries when he was caught up in an explosion which killed Pte Robert McLaren in Afghanistan's Kandahar region.

Last year, Pte Connolly took to the catwalk during New York's Scotland Week, for the Dressed to Kilt fashion show, organised by Sir Sean Connery, to raise funds for veterans' charity Erskine.
