Bishop preaches hope in address

THE head of the Episcopal Church in Scotland has emphasised the need for hope in his Good Friday message.

The Most Rev David Chillingworth, Bishop of St Andrews, Dunkeld and Dunblane and Primus of the Scottish Episcopal Church, says:

"I am a strong believer in human progress and human potential. There are huge problems, massive injustices and continuing wars.

"But we live in times which offer extraordinary opportunities for human advancement. In that sense, I am a happy optimist about the human condition.

"After the pain, the suffering, the hopelessness and desolation, the tombs are open in the graveyard of hope. Where we experienced despair and death, new life is flooding in. There is hope.
