Police have issued a warning after teacake biscuits were found in a public area laced with a potentially harmful medicine.

The discovery was made by a member of the public on a grassy area on Old School Place in the Merkinch area of the city on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The items appeared to have a coloured substance inserted within and were handed in to the Police.

“Following initial analysis the substance is thought to be Warfarin medication, which can be extremely harmful if consumed by anyone to whom it has not been prescribed.

“Anyone who has any information on this incident is urged to contact Police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
