Bike thefts on the rise

THE number of bike thefts in Edinburgh last month was up 16 per cent on April 2011.

A total of 138 bikes wasreported stolen during April, compared with 119 for the same month a year before. Thirteen thefts have been solved by police. Bike-marking events will be staged between tomorrow and July 11 in a bid to make it easier to reunite stolen bikes with their owners.

The venues include Ocean Terminal shopping centre and Leith Links.
