Big success
for Ratho GP
campaign

A NEW GP surgery in Ratho is a step closer after the business case for the replacement building was approved by health bosses.

The tiny Ratho Health Centre, in Baird Road, has been deemed not fit for purpose and has been described by some as more of a flat than a surgery.

It had previously been suggested that its replacement would be built at Ratho Station – an option that proved unpopular with residents and local politicians.

However, following a campaign it has emerged that refurbishing an empty building in Wilkieston Road is now the preferred option.

Pentland Hills SNP councillor Bill Henderson said: “It’s a fantastic result for Ratho and shows what can be achieved when the community works hand-in-hand with local and national politicians.

“This news will go down superbly in Ratho. Everybody is happy.”

Colin Briggs, general manager for NHS Lothian’s Edinburgh Community Health Partnership, said: “The Wilkieston Road premises is the preferred option. The next step will be to procure the construction contract.”
