Big-hearted students pick up prizes for charity efforts

SIX students have been recognised for their excellent work in the community.

The students from Queen Margaret University picked up Santander Community Service Awards for their work with a wide range of community organisations, ranging from the Musselburgh Brownies to international charities.

At an awards ceremony held at Queen Margaret, each student was presented with 100 from the Student Fund for their efforts, while Abbey Santander gifted 500 to each charity.

Second-year speech and language therapy students, Danielle McFarland and Katie Houston, were recognised for their work as assistant leaders with the 3rd Musselburgh Brownies.

Georgie Turner, Tina Wren, Megan O' Carroll and Zoe Clements were other students honoured.

Dr Petra Wend, principal of Queen Margaret University, said: "We are really proud that many of our students give their time to help a range of amazing voluntary organisations."
