Beach towns to get say on EU funding

residents in coastal towns in East Lothian are being asked for their views on how they would like to see £200,000 spent in their area.

Cockenzie and Port Seton, Dunbar and North Berwick could benefit from an application for funding through the European Fisheries Fund. The EU fund was set up to improve the quality of life in areas hit by the decline of fishing, and to support the sustainable development of fisheries regions, including diversification into tourism, food and renewable energy.

It would see £100,000 of EU money matched by the same sum from East Lothian Council, to be spent over the next three years.

The cash would be allocated by the newly-established Fisheries Local Action Group, made up of representatives of the council, businesses and voluntary groups.
