Battle to find war artefacts

An appeal has been made to help track down all of Midlothian’s war memorials.

Midlothian Council’s library service is undertaking a major research project to mark the centenary in 2014 of the outbreak of the First World War.

Staff want to record everything relating to the war as it affected people in Midlothian and to create a roll of honour for everyone who lost their lives.

Councillor Peter Boyes said: “We are really hoping as many local people as possible will scour their homes, look in the backs of drawers and in attics for any information at all about those who lost their lives.

“The library is also appealing for information on memorials which may have been destroyed. Contact 0131-271 3976 or e-mail [email protected].
